Good Reads: Creme Eggs and seven days of sex

Hello everyone!  Happy belated Easter etc.  Sorry Good Reads is a little late this week but those Creme Eggs don’t just eat themselves you know!

It’s been a pretty stressful few weeks.  I started another new temp job, got involved in a certain car campaign to promote electric cars, broke my little toe … oh, and I went to Barcelona for a few days.  That last bit wasn’t stressful mind you.  Although security did search me – twice.  But I kinda liked it.

Anyway, with the promise of sunnier days just round the corner, (granted, it’s a big corner,) here is my roundup of the best blog posts I’ve read in the last few weeks.

It was a tough choice when I visited Ministry of Mum’s blog.  Either My Shite Vlog (totally tempted by that title,) or Seven Days of Special Love.  I plumped for the latter.  Course I did.  Claire shares with us her diary of trying to make lurrve for seven whole days.  Stop laughing – I’m sure it’s possible.  Anyway, by Friday when Daddy’s doing the ‘stop, drop and roll’ because the 8 year old has walked in (sista – we’ve all been there!) Claire resigns herself to the fact that a sex life is possible post-kids … but it requires a whole lotta focus.

Next up is Claire from Cheshire Mum.  In Mothers Stop Moaning, Claire talks about a Guardian article written by Bibi Lynch about how Ms Lynch is ‘sick of women complaining that motherhood is hard when the pain of knowing she will never have children is difficult to bear.’  A mixed debate about the clash between motherhood and infertility.

Amanda from the Ana Mum Diary has a confession.  She is not a fan of Instagram.  *faints*  Being a massive fan of the photo filtering app myself, I wondered what it was about Instagram that Amanda didn’t like.  And, if I’m honest, she may have a point.  (Urgh, I hate it when that happens.)  Surely, a photo should really reflect the era it was taken in?

12 Hours to Bedtime is a new blog I’ve been introduced to and Mummy Clay (not totally sure that’s her real name,) has written a very touching post about her big brother.  It involves pickled onions, being unceremoniously dumped at Victoria station, but also talks of a respect and love for each other that really is quite beautiful.

Samantha Brick.  Two words to make the rest of us mere mortals quiver in our very ordinary, ugly, ever-so-plain boots.  Anna from Adventures of a Middle Aged Matron has written an homage to Ms Brick (that’s Brick with a ‘B’) which is hilarious.  A must read.

You know when you first cut your child’s hair and they end up looking like Frankenstein’s monster?  Stay at Home Dad does.  Hell, we’ve all been there, right?  And that moment when your kid finds a bag of their hair that you’ve cut and kept?  Yeah, that’s weird.

Over at Rosie Scribble’s place, she’s talking about sponsored posts and full disclosure.  As responsible bloggers, we all know about disclosing to our readers if a post is sponsored/paid right?  Well it seems that there’s a new breed of PR who is keen for us not to disclose.  Rosie uses a great analogy to explain – but it’s all a bit disconcerting.

Jodie from Mummy Cool has written a story about Easter.  Sort of.  In The Easter Story as told by A Small Boy aged 6 & A Bit, Jodie’s son explains his version of the Easter story.  I think I prefer it.  I was probably distracted by the mention of wine and chocolate.

Kelloggsville has written an interesting post about holding children back with kindness and asks whether we, as parents, do too much for our children.  I want Dexter to be independent and believe I’ve done my best to teach him to do things himself as much as he can – but it’s a whole lot quicker doing it yourself sometimes, right?!

And finally, PurpleMum used to be a circus artist.  How cool is that?!  Now, she lives a ‘normal’ life with her family and explains, in Mundane, and I love it, that now she and her husband are no longer working in a circus they can spend more time together doing the things that we all take for granted.  (I would totally rock the trapeze btw.  Just saying.)

So that’s that.  I hope you’re all still enjoying Good Reads – I try hard to find a very eclectic mix of posts for you but please do let me know if you read any posts that grab your attention during the week and I’ll take a look.
