With the New Year comes the time for fresh starts and personal challenges. Giving up alcohol for January is a common goal, and Cancer Research UK is harnessing that impulse with its “Dryathlon”, in which people can raise money by banning the booze for a month.
“I have noticed that when times are challenging I lean a little on a glass of wine or a tot of rum. My mum and 5 of her siblings saw cancer resulting in their deaths so I am delighted to get involved in a personal challenge that also supports Cancer Research UK. As with all fundraising, every little helps so I am hoping some kind souls out there will be happy to donate to my fundraising page http://www.justgiving.com/Catherine-Holmes-dryathlete2014.
“My mum was diagnosed with womb cancer in September and I blogged about it here I lost a friend to ovarian cancer on Christmas morning. Last year I did the Race for Life with that friend; this year I am doing the Dryathalon for her and my mum. It is my way of being proactive and doing my bit to end cancer, raising both money and awareness. You can donate here.
