Autumn is time for comfort food and conkers, fireworks and turning leaves, winter woolies and cosy slippers and of course Halloween and pumpkins and pumpkin recipes.
Halloween might even be better even than Christmas in providing opportunities for creatively themed food.
I’d love to visit to a pumpkin patch at Arnprior Farm. It’s in Scotland and has a Kale Maze too! So with that in mind, this month’s food round up plays homage to the Pumpkin King.
Pumpkin soup recipes
Roasted pumpkin soup with fried sage and white truffle oil – Elizabeth says that her dish will add an air of sophistication to your family dining, but it’s a really easy recipe to make.
Pumpkin Sweet Potato Soup – Rachel at the Parenting Pod shares a recipe which is simple but delicious.
Spiced Pumpkin Soup – This soup from Lost in Food is perfect for cold wintery days.

Slow Cooker Pumpkin and Butterbean Stew – For autumnal comfort food you’d be hard pushed to get better than Hedgecombers simple stew, which takes all the effort out of a healthy mid week meal.
More pumpkin savoury recipes
My own vegetarian Squash and Goats Cheese Tart really comes into its own at this time of year. It can be made year round with butternut squash if you can’t get hold of a Pumpkin. Nathalie at The Intolerant Gourmet has made a beautiful vibrant recipe with roasted pumpkin. A perfect, simple dish with a twist her Pumpkin Risotto is baked, so there’s no stirring for hours. Meanwhile Bintu at Recipes from a Pantry suggests that Autumn is perfect for treating yourself to her Bacon Pumpkin Bread. I reckon it would be pretty awesome topped with Diana from Little Sunny Kitchen’s Pumpkin Hummus.
Pumpkin dessert recipes
Time for the sweet treats (no tricks allowed!) Veggie Desserts has used pureed pumpkin in these baked pumpkin dougnuts with chocolate glaze. They’re fluffy, cakey and lightly spiced. Grab yourself a Pumpkin latte as there’s lots more to come. Deliciously moist pumpkin cake bars with smooth cream cheese frosting from Curly’s Cooking, Pumpkin Chocolate Chip scones from Baking Queen and the ultimate gooey treat, Pumpkin Cheesecake Chocolate Brownies from The Baking Explorer. All of these surely must be healthy as they contain a vegetable – yes?! Another one from me was inspired by our trip to Orlando this time last year and a visit to the Wizarding World. Yup its Harry Potter Pumpkin Pasties.
Until a couple of years ago I’d never even heard of pumpkin spice, but Supergolden Bakes has used it to great effect in her showstopping Pumpkin Spice Cake with Cream Cheese Frosting and Toffee Sauce. DROOL! Have we saved the best till last? No Pumpkin roundup would be complete without a Pumpkin Pie. Charlotte has shared her recipe which she describes as the taste of autumn with crisp shortcrust pastry and a soft, creamy spiced pumpkin filling.
I do hope you get the chance to be creative in the kitchen with pumpkin this October. Sadly there is a scary amount of Pumpkin waste at this time of year. We need to realise that pumpkins are a valuable source of food and not just for decoration. Hopefully this months roundup has inspired you to do just that.
