Family Days Out Round-up: May Bank Holiday special

It only seems like the kids were on their Easter break five minutes ago, but it’s May already and they are being spoiled with not one, but two bank holidays and it looks as though you have all been enjoying some fabulous days out with friends and family.

One of the highlights of April / May for me is seeing the trees come out in blossom and flowers start to bloom. With this has come a sea of stunning photographs and blogs with people enjoying a carpet of blue. We visited our local Bluebell Woods at Pamphill, My Two Mums headed for their local Bluebell Wood in Dorset, Podcast Dove found hers at Hatchlands in Surrey and Coombe Mill had her very crop on her farm.

Another highlight of spring is that the birds sing louder, brightly coloured butterflies and dragonflies start making an appearance as the sun gets warmer and animals are happier to be outside during visits to wildlife parks. Global Mouse took advantage of this and headed to Buckfast Butterfly Farm in Cornwall where she not only got to see the beautiful butterflies but got to feed some Otters too. Ickle Pickle visited Folly Farm in Wales, which despite its name houses some creatures you would more likely find in a zoo, Jennifer’s Little World headed to Drusilla’s Park in Sussex to try out their Zoolympics, Project Wanderlust to Willows Farm in St Albans to test out the new Peter Rabbit Adventure Playground and The Mini Me’s and Me enjoyed getting back to nature at the Mountain View Ranch in South Wales and had some family fun at Exmoor Zoo.

There is something about steam trains that capture the imaginations of little ones and Max from Max and Mummy had a wonderful time at the Day Out with Thomas event at the Watercress Line in Hampshire and BubbaBlueandMe had a chugging good time at the Eastbourne Miniature Steam Railway.

The long weekend is also a great excuse to visit a theme park and we were lucky enough to be invited to the launch of the Lost Kingdom at Paultons Park along with Tired Mummy of Two which was packed full of new rides and realistic animatronic dinosaurs whilst JuggleMum headed to Thorpe Park with her family and braved the Swarm.

Bank Holidays are also famed for their family events and we headed to not one, but three events over the weekend. The Dorset Knob Throwing Festival, Fossil Festival and a Donkey Derby. Geronimo was also a popular event and The Brick Castle and The Growing Family had mixed views on the event

Something that I am keen to try with mine is Geocaching and Max and Mummy has been trying it out thanks to some inspiration from My Two Mums who have a Geocaching Kids page on their website for inspiration.

For those of us that haven’t had the best of weather there have been some lovely indoor days out to enjoy too. Mummy of 2+1 headed to Skegness Aquarium and The Creative Pair had a bouncing good time at their local Trampoline Park, Jump in Warwick.

National Trust properties always put on some fabulous events and haven’t disappointed this month. The Ordinary Lovely headed to Erdigg in North Wales where the kids enjoyed the natural play area, Babi a Fi went out and about at Tredegar House and Podcastdove enjoyed the play area at Hatchlands in Surrey.
