Expat Round-up: Crossing continents

Hi I’m Maria Tumolo. I’m taking over the BritMums Expat Round-up from Greta Solomon. I’ve been a member of Britmums from the start of my blogging journey, back in 2011. Over the years I’ve made firm blogger friends and gained wonderful opportunities as a member of the network. For those of you who don’t know me, I blog over on The Tiger Tales which is a parenting and lifestyle. The Tiger Tales reflects my personal growth and features my varying areas of interests, being an expat is part of it. However, my expat life began before I was a wife and mother. Those two phases totally changed my outlook of my adopted home, England. I see her with new  eyes. England is the only home my children have ever known. I’m intrigued about the lives of expat bloggers who have relocated with young children.

I can’t imagine it’s easy to cross continents with small children and set up a new home. The posts I’ve selected to share with you for this month’s expat round-up share helpful tips for families with little children.  Jenny from Travelynfamily writes about her Lessons From The First Month in Banglore, India. Jenny recently moved to there with her husband and sons, Arthur (aged 3) and Ezra (aged 2). In her blog she talks about how to keep children entertained in the early days before the TV and internet has been connected. She also shares how helpful it was becoming a part of a supportive network and the convenience of ordering takeaway. Number 5 on ‘Crossing the Road’ is quite funny. I found it quite heartening when she said, if the kids are happy, life becomes a lot easier for the parents. I’m sure you will agree that’s true whether you’re an expat or not.

While we are talking about moving continents, Leona writes to us from Qtar. Leona recently received an expat tag. She took up the expat tag challenge. Through her responses we get a crash course into her life Qtar from the UK. Leona says, … usually people had a lot of questions either on the weather, the dress code or life during Ramadan (as a result she’s shared links to posts that cover the topic in detail), she also tells us her favourite food and drink in Qtar, along with her favourite pastime there.

Meanwhile Karen from Smart Step to Australia explores the Unexpected Side Effects Of Moving to Australia. When she reflects on her family, she says … I hadn’t expected when we emigrated was all of the personal changes I’ve seen in me and my family since we moved to Australia. Top of her list was the expansion of her comfort zone. In a separate post Karen shares very important guidance on Living with The Extreme Weather In Australia. She notes, The fact is though that Australia is all safe, if you take care and take notice of alerts and warnings.
