Expat Round-up: About the Expats

I love About Me pages. Many of my readers know this already.

The About Me page is the most clicked-on page in most blogs so it’s got to be good. If someone lands on an interesting post on your blog they may want to know more so they look for an About Me page. If someone lands on a post that doesn’t tell them much about you but shows promise, they look for an About Me page. If someone really loves your blog and wants to know more they look for an About Me page. Getting the picture yet? It’s important to have a good About Me page. Mine (About The American Resident) isn’t stratospherically amazing, but I’m pretty satisfied with it–it tells you who I am, what I do, what I aim to do with the blog, contact details and links to a few interesting pages and posts if people want to know more about me.

This month I wanted to know more about my fellow expats so I trawled through my links and found some interesting About Me pages for you all to enjoy!

Karin who writes two blogs, Cafe Bebe and Mummy 365, has an About Me page on her Cafe Bebe blog that describes her and her family and also lists her areas of expertise, which is an excellent idea for your About Me page–after all, if anyone is interested in working with you, isn’t this the first place they would look? And as a social media expert, Karin knows plenty about this already!

Carol over at A Piglet in Portugal is a British expat in Portugal, writing about food and other interesting discoveries in her expat life. Useful for anyone visiting or moving to Portugal, but her humorous writing is simply entertaining to anyone interested in Portugal and/or the expat lifestyle! Her About Me page is short and sweet but tells you immediately what her blog is about and how it could be of inteest to the reader.

Deborah, the Expat It Girl who writes at Metropolitan Mum has an interesting, funny and intelligent About Me page and I love how she includes a photo of herslef so we can picture who’s writing these entertaining posts.

Rosalind, who writes on the beautiful blog, Tales from Windmill Fields has an About Me page but I want to draw your attention to her very clever post highlighting some of her best posts. This is a great way to introduce new readers to your blog–especially if you have catchy post titles to include in it! And I would even suggest putting this type of post in an about Me page. I love how she has labelled each highligted post as ‘my most popular post’ or ‘my most controversial post’ and so on. Click on the her blog title here to see the post.

One thing I love to do both here and on my own blog is helping promote the businesses, not just the blogs, of fellow expats. A new blogger, Ashleigh, who writes at An American Mum in Wales has a wonderful online shop called Proudly of Britain Shop–really cool gifts and things for the home and garden so I’m directing you not to the About page, but the Manifesto Page! How about that!

And finally I leave you with Chickenruby. Chickenruby writes a fantastic About Me page that is an excellent example of a blogger really showing their personality and the theme of the blog in the About Me page. You know immediately what you’ll get if you keep reading, the writing is engaging, it is written in a great blog-style (with short paragraphs, numbering, etc.) and it makes me want to come back for more.
