Three families, two islands, one month… If you’ve ever thought you can’t go to the Caribbean because you have kids, the Elite Island Family Blogathon is taking pre-schoolers to teens to two different islands to prove that just ain’t so.
With Virgin Holidays whisking us from London to either Antigua or St Lucia, we’ll be discovering three different Elite Island resorts and just what the islands have to offer families.
So who’s joining the blogathon?
First up, it’s me – Cathy from MummyTravels, off to Antigua with my three-year-old where we’ll be staying at Verandah Resort.
It’s the 13th trip for my well-travelled little girl and her third to the Caribbean. I had to wait almost four decades before I managed that… Neither of us have been to Antigua before, so between making sandcastles and ice cream, we’ve got a boat trip planned and I’m hoping to take her to one of the shallower coral reefs.
Then after I return, it’s time for BritMums co-founder Susanna, from A Modern Mother to follow me to the island where she’s staying at Elite’s other resort, St James’s Club & Villas, with her girls aged 10 to 13.
With ziplining, snorkelling and swimming with stingrays lined up between some relaxing in the sunshine, this will be her first (!) taste of the Caribbean.
Last up is Jenography’s Jen (and BritMums’ other co-founder), who’s heading
to St Lucia to the lovely St James’ Club Morgan Bay – where I stayed last year, so I know how gorgeous it is – with an 11-year-old and a 16-year-old.
It’s her second trip to this island; the first was when her daughter was three, so it’ll be a new experience to return with both kids on their first full family Caribbean holiday. With a teen in tow, she’ll be discovering the adventurous side of St Lucia and activities appealing to older kids, learning about everything from the rainforest to how chocolate is made along the way.
The clock is ticking. The forecast is sunny. There’ll almost certainly be fruit punch. In Jen’s words, ‘woohoo’! Let the blogathon commence…
