Back to school needn’t mean back to the soul-destroying monotony of doling out cheese sandwiches each day, but nor should providing a healthy and innovative lunch box for your kids take over your life.
Anything that requires overnight soaking or first thing cooking is clearly unsustainable…
Tasha from www.wahm-bam.org recently ran a competition to win a hamper of goodies, and asked readers to share the contents of their kids’ packed lunches.
Here are just a few of the ideas:
“In my day we used to have a sandwich, a packet of crisps, a piece of fruit and a little biscuit or treat. I am new to packed lunches for my little one but am considering wraps and pitta bread instead of sandwiches and cherry tomatoes and cucumber chunks which she loves!” – Would Like to be a Yummy Mummy
“Hummus and crudités and bread sticks are healthy and filling, my daughter loves this kind of food.” – Isil
“My daughter’s favourite is olives, my son’s bread sticks and cream cheese, my husband is partial to a Melton Mowbray pork pie…” – Claire, Cheshire Mum
“My son’s lunchbox always came back with left over crusts in it, so the way round that was mini wraps. Cherry tomatoes to snack on and rice crispy cake treats now and then. Much more exciting than I had as a kid: I had garibaldis as a treat and was convinced they had dead flies in them.” – Jeremy Rance
“I prefer pitta bread to normal sandwiches favourite fillings include : salad and fried haloumi , salad hummus and falafel, salad and Sosmix. Also love lots of little pots of chopped fruit to pick at…” – Eva
“Lunchboxes are a nightmare in our house as eldest has decided she doesn’t like bread (unless it’s crusty) though I do have some staple things that she will eat now including pizza whirls, tuna pasta and will be trying her on Spanish omelette soon!” – Barenakedmummy
How do you fill your children’s lunch boxes each day?
