Go on, admit it; you loved spending time with the kids over the summer holidays. It was, nonetheless, time for them to go back to school wasn’t it? I know I’m not the only one to feel this way. I’ve seen loads of blog posts from mums and dads who are either relaxing or spring cleaning now their children aren’t around as much.
One post-school holiday blog post has caught my attention. It’s this one from Mark (@Sonnyandluca), a stay at home dad and author of Sonnyandluca.co.uk. Mark’s youngest child, Luca, has just gone into reception class. With both his offspring now in education, Mark finds himself drinking tea and Watching Loose Women, inbetween getting to grips with the lists of jobs his wife wishes to see completed around the house.
Only thing is, it’s not quite that simple for Mark. Waving Luca off to school for the first time was an emotional experience. It made him realise that his youngest child has to be treated differently to his sibling. The post has a happy ending involving some special – but decadent – dad and son time. I’ll leave you to find out exactly what happens.
Unlike Mark, Chris at Daddycamo (@Daddy_camo) is a few years away from standing at the school gate waving his child off to school. He has, however, just experienced an important rite of passage and spent the night looking after his baby daughter while his wife met up with some friends. Despite admitting to some nerves, it passed without incident and he even managed to write a blog post about the experience before his wife got home.
Moving on to something completely different, the #fairpayforbloggers campaign launched by Catherine Summers (@notlamb) of Notdressedaslamb has created a lot of discussion among the dad bloggers. Catherine has proposed bloggers should get paid for administering product reviews and there’s been a huge amount of social media chat among the dads who seem broadly in support of this idea.
Alex (@Daddacool), who is well known for writing the Daddacool blog, is one of those who joined the debate. He posted this on another blog he writes called Do It Anyway. It’s an interesting insight from someone with five year’s blogging expereince.
I shall finish this round up on a high. My last round up featured Dave at the Dadventurer (@The_Dadventurer). At the time Dave was on the cusp of becoming a dad for the very first time. The big event happened very soon after my round up was published and he and his wife Hayley now have a beautiful baby girl. In his latest blog post, Dave’s been writing poetry inspired by baby-induced insomnia.

John thanks so much for mentioning my post about the #fairpayforbloggers campaign! I've been overwhelmed by the amount of discussion on the topic and am pleased to report back that since writing my Product Gifting Policy (which gives the brands the choice of gifting me something without charge with no guarantee of a post, OR paying a fee for me to write a review and include links and social media shares, etc.), I have had about a 50% take up from brands.
So it seems brands and PRs often DO have the budget, but if you don't ask, you don't get!
Thanks also for pointing out Alex's post - he didn't tell me about the post he'd written at the time so I'm really glad I've seen it now and have left him my thoughts in a comment. I will be writing a follow up post within a week or so which gives links to all the posts I've found on the #fairpayforbloggers subject, including yours ("It's About Time"). Should be yet another good read...!
