One minute we have a whole six weeks of good intentions and playdates groaning out in front of us, the next we’re trying to find book bags under piles of abandoned projects and wrestling early nights out of the brood.
But whether tomorrow is a return to the familiar school run or the (gulp) very first day, it seems we’re all feeling a little out of sorts.
Secondtimemummy is so rattled with nerves about her little one’s big day, she’s come over all queasy.
“I have that nervous sick feeling and it won’t go away… My little boy starts school tomorrow – God, I got a shiver right down my back as I typed that.
“I don’t understand how this has happened, I know it’s a cliché but it only seems like yesterday that I was pregnant and shopping for little baby boy clothes. My little tiny 6lb 9oz baby is now 4-and-a-half years old and an independent little man. This has hit me like a tonne of bricks – no one tells you about that in the baby books!”
Debbie from Countryheartandhome.blogspot.com on the other hand, threw her three boys a back-to-school party:
“Scott: ‘Mam, why would we have a party to go back to school – we aren’t happy?!’
“Me: ‘I am and that’s worth a party!’ lol!”
Check out the picture of the incredible six layer apple cake…
Meanwhile – and this is really very sweet – Rebecca English listed her own summer holiday activities, which was “not really very interesting” so decided to write a listography post from her daughter’s perspective.
“As of Thursday I will have a proper `schoolgirl. I hope she’s had a lovely summer full of sunshine, fun and adventures.”
Judging from the kite flying, swimming, jumping, bike-riding and camping in the list, it definitely looks that way.
So, how are you coping with this week’s new term?

Thanks for the lovely mention. It's amazing to see your words quoted back to you. Just been labeling my daughter's school clothes and it's starting to feel real. Can't believe she'll be gone all day at school! I've got used to having her around!

I still get a nervous feeling in my stomach when I think about my son’s first day at school; I think I always will! He started this January in Australia, the beginning of the academic year here. We’re now about to finish term three and I can’t believe how far he’s come. Good luck to mums and children starting school in the UK this and next week!

I'd love to know your specific concerns about school for a new series I've started on the Head's Office called Parent Matters. It hopes to look at those areas that concern parents and link them with teachers who may be able to help. Do tweet me at either @jfb57 or @theheadsoffice
