BritMums Expat Round-up: Summer as an Expat

The summer holidays are upon a lot of us international schoolers already.

While most of us dream of calm days stretching out ahead in order to relax and unwind, the reality of an expat’s life is very different. More often than not what actually lies ahead is hour upon hour of manic visiting – which usually means a hell of a lot of travelling. A family of a friend of mine – bearing in mind there are a good few of them in this particular family – clocked up around 48 flights between them last summer alone! Here, there and everywhere, to catch up with friends and fulfil those all-important (and often guilt inducing) family and friend expectations.  

Having “time off” is also usually when we try to fit in all important administration stuff that we never have time to getting around to usually too – financial stuff in home countries, kids vaccination records that need updating, and other boring but necessary things like renewing driving licences and the like. Expat Life with a Double Buggy offers some solutions as to how to actually have a break at this time of year in her post The Summer Holiday and the Expat.

Also in the Netherlands, Ace the Adventure finds real treasure in Hollands humble but completely fascinating flea markets. I also have an obsession with those wherever we live too.
