Dad Bloggers Round-up: Sports day, super markets, and growing up

Well the continuing search for dad bloggers is still going on and again I have been surprised to find even more of them, working away in the virtual world.  Actually, having attended BritMums Live last month, it has been revealed that these people not only exist in real life, but are also as genuinely knowledgeable and amusing as their blogs suggest.

Actually it was great to meet so many friendly people, male and female, at the event and to discover what a fabulous community of bloggers exists in the parenting sphere.  Obviously the dads were very much in the minority, but I certainly found that we were made very welcome and it would be nice to see an increase in our numbers next year.

Anyway, getting back to the point of this post, which is of course to highlight some more of the dad blogs that I have come across in the past month.  To kick off with we have Matt who writes what he terms as the tales of a novice father, on his aptly named blog Forays into Fatherhood.  His posts revolve around family life and his ongoing experiences with his young daughter.  Recently he wrote a piece titled Growing Up, which really struck a cord with me, as although my children are older, I am often surprised by the little things which indicate they have taken another step on the development ladder.

Ralph on the other hand probably fits into the same category as me, a dad who blogs, about all sorts actually.  Variety as they say is the spice of life and you will certainly find it at It’s Me Wizard, the blog where he resides.  Sport, cooking and of course parenting are included, along with anything else that takes his fancy, as he says it can be a bit random.  I had originally planned to link to a different post, but having recently attended two sports days, my attention was drawn to his involvement in organising the Berkhampstead Games, a school event of truly epic proportions, seriously impressive stuff.

Another example of this self style randomness is Alex Off Grid, who uses the word loosely when describing the topics around which his writing is based on.  There is plenty to see here, including making a plaster mould of a child’s hand, a new one for me I must say, but this month one post in particular stood out and it’s a bit of a rant.  There is, in my opinion, nothing wrong with a good rant sometimes and if it is on the subject of supermarkets then I am more than happy to join in, although he seems to have done a fine job on his own with Things that drive me nuts in Supermarkets .

I was lucky enough to recently meet the author of the next blog, who tends to go under the moniker of b’s dad and writes Life with an Autistic Son.  My knowledge of autism is embarrassing little, however I do understand that parenting can be both difficult and rewarding in the same breathe, which is something that he describes beautifully.  His most recent post encapsulates this in a wonderful manner as he describes the highs and lows of a school year.  I should also add that he is a top chap and did a great job as keeper of the beer kitty the other week, hopefully the hangover was worth the company.

Finally this month I would like to point you in the direction of First Time Daddy, who has made a previous appearance on this round-up during Keith’s tenure.  I’m not going to apologise for this, he has written an extremely important post this month, about perfecting the look.  This is possibly the most essential thing a father must learn, at his current stage the look is for the prevention of mischief, but later on this will develop to be used in a large range of situations, I for example have daughters and have been practicing my, in your dreams sunshine look, in preparation for the first boy who knocks at the door.

Hopefully you will all get time to have a look at these blogs and of course feel free to let me know about any others, as typing in dad blog on Google brings up 451,000,000 results, so I could use a little help.
