BritMums blogging it forward for charity

Are you a parent blogger who would like to make a difference?  Are you a good cause or charity that is looking for new ways to get your message across?  If you fall into either or both of these categories, you will be pleased to hear that BritMums is here to help with its new “Charity Connections – Blogging It Forward” campaign.  As I have over 20 years experience in the voluntary and community sector, BritMums have asked me to get the ball rolling on this one.

Bloggers who post about charities report it gives them a sense that they are making a real difference and helping others.  It can help in identifying bloggers with shared concerns.  It can encourage new audiences to visit your blog.  It can lead to life-changing experiences such as taking on fundraising challenges or seeing charitable projects up close and personal at home and abroad.  Will you take up the BritMums challenge and feature at least one charity on your blog this year?  You can give as much or as little time as you see fit.

There are so many diverse charities that there is bound to be one that fits your interests.  You might want to volunteer and report back on your experiences.  You might want to take up a fundraising adventure.  You might want to try out a service offerered by a charity.  You might want to organise an event to raise awareness of a specific cause.  You might want to lobby policy-makers.  You might simply want to post key messages from a charity.  There will be an opportunity for everyone who wants to take part at whatever level.

Grooving MumsIt is easy to get involved in the BritMums campaign to “blog it forward”.   If you are a parent blogger, please join the new BritMums group called “Charity Connections – Blogging It Forward”.  By doing so, you don’t commit to do anything but do ensure that you hear of opportunities to get involved.  Parent bloggers are already sharing their news of what they do with charities, of blog hops and of how they think partnerships between blogs and charities might work best.

I will be doing regular round-ups for BritMums highlighting inspirational posts about good causes.  Whether you are a fundraiser, volunteer, campaigner or service user, if you blog about charities, send your posts my way to kateonthinice@gmail.com

I will also do a regular round-up of news from charities.  If you are a charity or good cause, feel free to send me information and ideas to kateonthinice@gmail.com   Charity Connections – Blogging It Forward is a very new initiative so we are very open to hearing how everyone thinks it might work best.

I am pleased to report that Volunteering England are going to talk about BritMums in their newsletter.  They run a network of Local Volunteering Development Agencies who support a range of good causes in local cities and towns.  This means that if a blogger wants to help local causes, we should have a quick route to linking them up.

Your first step to getting involved if you are a blogger is to join the Charity Connections – Blogging It Foward group.

Your first step if you are a charity or good cause is to email me on kateonthinice@gmail.com with your thoughts on how the new initiative can work best for you.

I look forward to seeing some great relationships starting where bloggers give something back but also get benefit in terms of increased interest in their blogs and more.

Let’s get started!
