Well, that went fast, didn’t it? As the four-day week crashes to a halt and we prepare to once again mount the bucking bronco of school runs and juggling, it’s time to honour a blogger whose unflinching humour while spinning a million plates is an inspiration to us all.
This particular blogger has a full-time job, toddler and husband. Not only that, but she also – whisper it – attempts to have a social life. All hail this week’s BritMums Blogger of the Week…
Adventures of a Working Mum. As she explains in her bio, “I could say I’m a working mum with a toddler and a husband to look after which is perfectly true but pretty dull. “So instead, to give you a better idea, I’ve listed my various job titles: Apprentice Mother of Willful Toddler, Suited and Booted Office Wonder, Aunt to the Numerous Screaming Hoards, Career Chocoholic and Cake Lover.”
Like most of us, she freaks out about growing old: “When we moved out to the country in 2007, Mr Working Mum suggested signing up for a joint National Trust membership. Far from accepting this as a practical and quite romantic gesture, I reacted by having a mini-meltdown…” and is won around with “a free cream tea when we joined”.
And again, like many of us, mum-life and career-life often crash with a calamitous din: “I reach into my handbag for my trusty calculator… Oh no. Oh please no. Not today. Not this meeting. Blood rushes to my cheeks, Mega-important but Misogynistic Client squints across the table, and there swinging jauntily from the corner of my not-so trusty calculator case is a pair of pants.”
She gets cross about rubbish children’s menus, sparking a riotous revolt of agreement in the comments of her post, she pleads for uniformity on social kissing, her mind boggles over doggie daycare and her recent post ushering in Autumn put a big smile on my face.
Add Working Mum to your daily read, for solidarity, sense of humour and a little bit of silliness.
