Hello everyone, It’s Mo @aNoviceMum here with BritMums’ 2nd round-up of breastfeeding blogs. Sharing breastfeeding stories is helpful for many successful breastfeeding journeys. This is part of what inspires my breastfeeding and I project, of which my BritMums breastfeeding round-up is a part. I hope they help to contribute to more positive and constructive conversations about infant feeding in general and breastfeeding (baby, toddler or school age) in particular.
My corner of the web was recently filled with posts from different bloggers who collaborated over the ‘Celebrate Breastfeeding Christmas Extravaganza‘. It was organised by Laura at Life with Baby Kicks and Sian at Quite Frankly She Said, who are part of the Positive About Breastfeeding collective. I thought it would be timely to bring you a round-up from this collection of recent breastfeeding blogs from the BritMums network bloggers that participated.
I joined in from my blog, Adventures of a Novice Mum, and wrote about 10 of the reasons why I love breastmilk and celebrate breastfeeding. I mean, breastfeeding is ‘FREE’ for starters. It’s also the only food that is perfectly designed especially for my baby. When eaten fresh, it’s at the right temperature, with the right natural mix of nutrients he needs. Even better, I don’t need to be a rich woman with power and status to make this happen. Is there anything not to like about breast milk and breastfeeding? Okay, let the truth be told, I can think of a few … maybe a bit more :-), but the pros definitely outweighs the cons for me as can be clearly seen in this post.
Hannah from Hi Baby Blog made me smile with the similarities she noticed between herself as a breastfeeding mum and Santa at Christmas. So much top and middle weights to carry around, thanks to the presents of nutrition and so much more that needs delivering quite often. And oh, let’s not forget the extra calories needed to get the job done well. You definitely want to check Hannah’s post for the details now, don’t you?
Sian from Quite Frankly She Said was on a myth bursting mission; discarding seemingly well-meaning breastfeeding myths that have no place on breastfeeding journeys any more. There is barely anything that isn’t compatible with breastfeeding these days. Check Sian’s post for some of those old wives tales that need to be outed for what they are, unnecessary and unneeded breastfeeding spoilers
Another Bun has a sweet message for mums who are not breastfeeding … a warm talk from one mum to another about what she as a breastfeeding mum would like other mums to know about breastfeeders. How we feed our babies is definitely not a competition to win, and all mums should be able to share their thoughts and pictures about it without the burden of how it will make another mum feel. We are big girls, right? There is definitely help out there to support us whether we breastfeed or not and the grass is not necessarily as green on the other side as it might look. In any case, one’s mum ‘happy’ is not intended to be another mum’s ‘sad’; women … there is enough feeding room for all of us, in the feeding space we all inhabit. This post is for sure one to read.
Below are 2 other breastfeeding posts from the last week; they are especially pertinent for this time of year. I wrote them as part of another parenting bloggers’ collaboration that I’ll be sharing about soon, but I thought I’ll add them to this mix because of their relevance.
Breastfeeding and Christmas do not always work well together, and my ‘how to survive breastfeeding at Christmas‘ post explores tips to make it work better. It covers a range of situations that are likely to crop up at this time of the year, from dealing with potential tension at family gatherings, to the issue of alcohol, and indeed of travel.
Also, with boxing day and new year sales looming, breastfeeding in public areas at such busy times might put some breastfeeding mums off shopping for the best bargains on offer. My post about facing breastfeeding in cold and crowded places is packed with handy tips to make them work better together.
And the last but not the least blog for this round-up is from Laura from My Thoughts on Things. Her beautifully written post about the contrasts between the values that breastfeeding encourages and those of the times we live in, will leave you pondering. What thoughtful reflections about breastfeeding, inspired some by the Christmas story. I found it to be warm, refreshing, inspiring, and thought provoking; definitely good reasons to celebrate breastfeeding.
I hope you’ve enjoyed my second round-up; I look forward to reading what you think, and all shares are of course appreciated.
I enjoy reading breastfeeding posts, add yours below for a definite read and comment, and a potential inclusion in my future Round-ups.
About Mo
Mo @aNoviceMum is a first-time mother, a full-time teacher, a glass-half-full dreamer, and an eager ideas manufacturer. She blogs at Adventures of a Novice Mum to express herself, and record snippets of her life, thoughts, and times for child. She also desires to encourage and inspire others on their life's journey. Blogging is one of the gifts motherhood gave Mo and an eye for photography is one of the many blogging treats she enjoys. Mo is always trying to find enough time to do everything on her non-existent and very long to-do list. She finds all of motherhood very fascinating, and can't get her head around how so many mothers have more than one child. Breastfeeding is one of her mothering past times, one that has taken more hours of her life than she can believe.
