And then a new member entered our family and we became five. No, I haven’t kept a pregnancy from you but at the beginning of the year we registered with Battersea Dogs and Cats Home thinking we’d like to rescue a dog. They warned us that for dogs suitable for children under 8 it could take some time to find one so we left without any sense of urgency and ready to take life as it comes. They did say however for me to regularly contact them so our family stayed fresh in their minds which I did.

Last Saturday whist enjoying a particularly lazy morning of reading, social media and cups of tea I got a phone call, they had a dog, a King Charles Cavalier, would we like to see him? Of course we did and so we got washed and dressed and set off to meet Baxter.

I cannot tell you how thorough Battersea were, we came out of there with a family dog but also full of knowledge and for all my questions Facebook has proven to be the perfect place to turn to, so many of my friends have dogs and can share opinions.

This weekend we’re taking him with us to Wales, it’s all new for me looking for hotels that accept dogs and packing things for a furry animal too; food, lead, treats, toys!
