Beauty Round-up: Preparing for the new season

beauty roundup 610 sliderThe past few months have been somewhat challenging on so many fronts that if I started writing blog posts on them I literally wouldn’t shut up for hours.  So to cope with the lack of control I’ve had over half of my life this year, I have taken control of my weight and health.

I have now lost over a stone since June 2013 and am managing to maintain it.  I have also started 3 (yes 3) dance classes per week; Ballet, Tap and Jazz.  And yes, I am less than 17 months away from 40 now.  But I still have some moves.   I feel more energetic and healthier as a result.

On the beauty front I have discovered Phytomer.  It’s the make that my local beautician uses for facials, and so I splashed out and bought the cleanser, toner and moisturiser.  Knowing that my previous routine involved Clarin’s All-in-one Water Comfort cleanser, my beautician couldn’t believe I was going to try separate toning.  Boy am I glad I did.  My skin feels amazing.  The cleanser goes on easily, and you wash it off with water.  Then the toner gets rid of anything you’ve missed.  I love it.

So what products have the Britmums bloggers been raving about this month?  It’s that time to find out…

Hannah, at Make, Do and Push, shares her Britmums Live beauty prep.  That head massager sounds heavenly….

If you are looking for an organic skin care range to try, Charlie tries out the Mary Elizabeth Natural range on Sophia’s Choice.

And staying with the natural products, on Mummy vs Work the Amie Morning Clear purifying facial wash and matte-finish mosituriser are reviewed and on Plutonium Sox (despite protests that she is definitely NOT a beauty blogger, Natalie trials EllaPure’s Essential skin-care set; a “genuinely ethical skin care company”.

Let’s move onto Moisturising Gloves.  I personally have never found a truly wearable pair of rubber gloves that don’t rip at the finger tips.  Either I have too sharp nails, or clean things by scrapping with my nails, or maybe both.  Anyhow; Kerrie, at Wife, Mum, Student-Bum, has reviewed the Bizzy Bee Moisturising Gloves and, to be fair, they sound pretty good.  I can’t wait to hear if they last longer too.

The next item in this beauty round-up may seem a little random; but it’s a review of products that I consider truly beautiful and certainly make me feel more confident when I have pretty ones;- pens and notebooks!  Joanne Mallon shares some stationary porn here.

Back to more traditional beauty posts, and Miss Budget Beauty tells us like it is in her review of Nails Inc.’s Gel Effect St James Nail Polish.  If you need it chip-resistance it doesn’t sound like this one’s for you (or me!  I’m sticking to the Shellac; it’s the only thing that doesn’t so much chip as grow-out!)

That’s it for this month folks.  Don’t forget to drop me a line when you next post a beauty review, and maybe you’ll be included in future round-ups!

About Louise Yummymummy

Louise started writing her blog Yummy Mummy? Really? after becoming a mum and discovering that it was harder than ever to keep looking yummy. Louise is a self-confessed late starter when it comes to beauty treatments and only started wearing make-up 5 years ago after the birth of her first daughter. She blogs both about her attempts to stay looking yummy; with posts on everything from electrolysis to home work-outs; and what she’s learnt as a mummy; from how to change a nappy, what kit you need to feed on the go, and how to avoid toddler tantrums!

Thanks so much for linking to my stationery post. Loved reading this roundup – I don’t really do beauty posts myself but I always enjoy reading other people’s.
