Baking Round-up: Healthier new year

Hello and welcome to the Baking Round-up, this month is all about healthier recipes for the new year ahead. After the rich bakes we love to enjoy at Christmas, the new year is often a time that we start consider recipes with a healthier twist. This month you’ll find plenty of baking recipes that are either made with less or natural sugars. Plus there are some low fat and wheat free recipes too.

Healthier breakfast bakes

Bark Time’s low fat Prune Muffins contain no refined sugar and look positively scrumptious. Fab Food 4 All has baked a delicious Vegan Banana Bread, the perfect recipe for that bunch of overripe bananas. These Banana and Walnut Breakfast Muffins from Charlotte’s Lively Kitchen are the ideal healthy on the go breakfast option. Easy Peasy Foodie has baked these yummy vegan Cranberry, Cinnamon and Pecan Porridge Squares, great for breakfast or a mid morning snack.

Healthier tea time bakes

Tin and Thyme’s dairy free Oaty Coconut, Fennel and Chocolate Cookies are sweetened only with coconut sugar. I love the look of this Slow Cooker Cocao Oat Slice with Date Caramel from Baking Queen 74. My Healthier Carrot Cake is completely sugar free, and is made with a sugar substitute called Natvia. Proper Foodie’s Flourless Chocolate Courgette Muffins are said to be low in calories and high in protein. Mummy Mishaps has used date nectar is a sugar alternative in this lovely Sugar and Dairy Free Date Nectar and Banana Cake.

Healthier desserts

Mummy Tries has created a Paleo Caramel Slice described as the best pudding ever, it certainly looks very impressive. A Strong Coffee has given the traditional baked cheesecake a healthy makeover, her Raspberry Cheesecake with Raspberry and Mint Coulis ticks all the boxes for me.
