Adoption & Fostering: Starts, ends & creases inbetween

Hello, a very warm welcome to February’s Adoption and Fostering round-up. Lots to get through this month, so let’s crack on…

Something that many adoptive parents are used to hearing is ‘all children do that’ or ‘biological children do that too’, and at Thoughts on Being Mum, this post describes how it feels to hear that, and explains why it’s not quite true…

Reluctant Football Mum had some news before Christmas – the dreadful news that her son’s birth mother had passed away. In this post, she talks honestly about her decision to go to the funeral, and as well as helping her express her feelings, she hopes that it might help others who find themselves in a similar position.

Old Time Fostering also got some news this month, and discovered that his former foster mother was still alive and wanted to meet him. In this post he talks about getting there.

Something different now – did you always know whether you wanted one child, or more than one? What about having to think about several children arriving at once (a sibling group)? A Hopeful Dad is a prospective adoptive parent currently going through the adoption process and he writes about sibling groups this time.

Onto another sibling group – at The Family of Five. MrsFo5 recently began home-educating her 3 girls, and in this post explains all. Well worth a read if you are considering home education for your own children.

I really liked this post from Al at Misadventures of an Adoptive Dad. A paper crease – a simplistic way of explaining the scars that trauma leaves, but effective.

And finally, 2 posts about FAS – that’s Foetal Alcohol Syndrome. One from a blog that is new to me – Nothing Could Be Further Than The Sky and the other, an old favourite – Life With Katie and Pip. I’ve recently seen some discussions on forums that really surprised me, where some people still believe it’s safe to have the odd drink in pregnancy – these posts prove otherwise.
