Family Days Out Round-up: April Adventures

Hello and welcome to April’s family days out round-up, which features all the fun from the Easter holidays. Sadly the weather didn’t play ball for many of us around the country, with wind, rain and even snow but it looks like everyone made the best of it with lots of fun days out with all the family.

We’re going to the zoo, how about you?

Visiting zoo’s and safari parks is always a hit with the kids and now that spring is upon us, the chance to see some of the animals and their new additions is hard to resist.

We headed to ZSL London Zoo for their superhero takeover event, which takes you on a self-guided Superpowers Trail around the Zoo, discovering real life animals with heroic superskills. The Mum Diaries headed to their sister zoo, ZSL Whipsnade Zoo to see the animals and see some Vets in Action and how they treat some of their poorly animals and the Ladybird’s Adventures found the monkey’s at Trentham Forest.

Marwell Zoo opened their new Tropical House just in time for the Easter holidays, Over40MumtoOne and Happy Mummy braved Paradise Wildlife Park during their Dinosaur Takeover, whilst The Mummy Adventure went back to the ice age at Howlett’s Zoo and we braved safari’s at Longleat and Woburn Safari Park.

Some fishy goings on around the country

Aquarium visits are another popular activity and with most being undercover, they were perfect for the damp, spring weather. Mimi Rose and Me visited Great Yarmouth Sea Life Centre, The Mum Diaries headed to Scarborough Sea Life Sanctuary, Boo Roo and Tigger too headed to the London Sea Life Centre for their Rainforest Adventure and Babies and Beauty braved The Deep in Hull.

Choo Choo – All aboard!!

There is something so nostalgic about seeing steam trains and it is a day out which the whole the family can enjoy.

Tin Box Traveller transported her family back to the golden era of steam trains and visited Bodmin and Wenford Railway in Cornwall, Plutonium Sox climbed 700ft in 12 miles on the Vale of Rheidol narrow gauge steam railway and we headed to the Watercress Mid-Hants Line for a Day Out with Thomas and friends.

Curious goings on at the museum

I love taking the kids to Museums as it has them learning without realising it. Momma Mack found some Curious goings on at We the Curious Museum in Bristol, My Boys Club explored Barters Books in Northumberland, NE Family Fun headed to the Tim Peaks exhibition at the Museum of Science and Industry and we got our hands dirty learning how we used to live at Cranborne Ancient Technology Centre.

On a more nautical theme, Thimble and Twig visited the Maritime Museum in London and Travel Loving Family enjoyed a trip to the SS Great Britain in Bristol.

Outdoors and Happy

Sometimes all the kids want to do is run around, leap in muddy puddles and do battle with their stick finds and often these make the best days out.

Mommamack headed to the Wild Place Project near Bristol for some muddy fun, Cardiff Mummy Says put the new wild play area at Dyffryn Gardens and the nature playground at Forest Farm Nature Reserve to the test and Boo Roo and Tigger Too enjoyed the Highway Rat Trail and a Go Ape adventure in Thetford Forest.

Looking for something a little different to do, Yorkshire Tots had an afternoon of intrigue, music, marshmallows and plenty of fun at the This Green Moon 24 Carrot Forest Easter Adventure at Swillington Farm, The Mummy Stylist headed to the Nets Kingdom at Black Park and we made the most of our National Trust passes and the Cadbury Easter Egg Hunts.

Theme Park Fun

Kids love all kinds of theme parks, especially those with a mix of rides and interactive activities. Pinks Charming got to find all the fun of the fair at Gullivers Theme Park in Milton Keynes, we discovered the new Miniland USA and Miniland Explore the World at Legoland Windsor, Boo Roo and Tigger too and the Knight Tribe enjoyed a day out at Drayton Manor, home of Thomasland.

History all around us

Days out with a historical twist always add some extra fun for the kids, as they get to explore the nooks and crannies of old buildings and imagine what life used to be like inside. Castles are always a big draw and one on my list for this year has to be Windsor Castle, which Blog Bay Bee visited with her brood. Bolsover Castle is another great place to visit and Bucketlist Lives took advantage of her English Heritage family pass for a visit, not far from there, Talking Mums added Warwick Castle to their visit list and Sidestreet Style visited the brilliantly named Tenby and Kidwelly Castle.

I hope you had a wonderful Easter and cannot wait to see what you get up to with your family now the weather is starting to improve.
