- Bio : Small Businesses always underestimate a bio. Bio’s are great for showing off skills and information about your business. Use emoji’s! - Know your audience : When you post an image/video on Instagram, it may actually only be exposed to 10% of your audience. The Pigeon Letters says “I believe this would mean that it gauges the interest of your audience to determine whether or not it should be shown to the rest of your followers. If your brand new post gets enough engagement right off the bat, it would then be released and shown to the remaining 90%. So if you’ve been wondering why one post gets 1/10 of the engagement of another post, this could be why.”
- Business Accounts : Business Accounts are still fairly new so you might not even realise you can have or need one. Improve Photography’s 5 reasons why you need a business profile lays it all out clearly and consistently. A business account provides you access to “insights” which are stats that show your levels of engagement, impressions and reach. This analytical information will help you produce better content. You are also able to have a proper CTA in the form of a phone number, email address and business address. So check your account is it a Business one?
- Hashtags : Using hashtags on Instagram is still the best way to build a following and increase your engagement. Don’t use the same ones over and over as you can get shadow banned for this (meaning you won’t show up) Add hashtags to your caption not as the first comment, there has been a trend to put a ton of hashtags in the comments but they actually work best in the description of the image. - Instagram Stories : I’ve boycotted stories so far! They seem to be appearing on all platforms so I guess I will have to bite the bullet and just get on with it. The PR Suite has a great list of reasons you should be using stories in your marketing. One of the huge positives of Stories is that they’re only around for 24 hours, so there is no reason to make them as ‘polished’ as your grid images. This can mean they’re less time-consuming to create than content for your profile grid. Raw content doesn’t demean your brand as a story is just a snapshot of you. I like to think of them as ‘real-time’ marketing, while you leave your profile grid for showcasing your best and most evergreen content. This is actually a huge positive that I hadn’t really considered, Lou is definitely selling it to me.
