Newbie Tuesday roundup: When you’re a parent…

round up of newbie blogs 610I read this post from Alison at Not Another Mummy Blog last week. It was one of those where you recognise yourself – painfully – in almost every sentence, and it got me started on this month’s Newbie Tuesday theme. So I went hunting for the BritMums newest bloggers’ take on what happens when you become a parent…

You wake up. Or rather, you don’t. What actually happens, is that you become semi-conscious of aching shoulders, a vague sense of unease in your belly, a slight pounding of your head, gritty eyes. A small voice says “Hungry Mummy…” You think it might be a hangover, but then you remember, you didn’t drink last night. Oh god, it’s worse than a hangover: you’re ill; and you’re a mother! Don’t worry. All is not lost. It’s not going to be good, but Hello Archie has some advice to get you through being ill when you’re a mum.

You buy stuff no-0ne in the sane world could ever need (what is the purpose of bootees, anyway?). And yet you will be unprepared for every eventuality with a new baby. Read Tina Bored’s hilarious account of how to prepare for a new baby, and you’ll never be flustered again. Maybe.

You lose confidence in yourself. You used to think you rocked – woe betide anyone who criticised your work, or your habits around the house. They could DO ONE! Now, you are a slave to this small being for whom sometimes your best will not feel like enough. With whom you lost patience today; for whom you would sacrifice everything, and yet still not get it right. Steps With Sarah has advice for those days when the self-doubt creeps in. Give yourself a break!

You need a boost. You’ll find it here at Raising Emily: whilst being a parent is relentless, and tiring, and occasionally thankless, here are all the wonderful things you will discover when you become a parent.

You finally get your mum. You need her like you did when you were 3, and the time had the flu when you were 14. You miss her support, her advice, and quite simply her presence in your otherwise chaotic life. Without My Mum is a blog where this is all too evident, and not just because of the guilt-free babysitting. It makes you think…

And just in case none of those have tickled your fancy (hello?!) I leave you with some photos to dwell on from Mrs Puddleducky. They will either make you think of how cute your baby was that time she…. or they will remind you of how much hard work raising a baby was 😉

Until next time x
