Travel Round-up: Cruising and road trips

travel round-upCruises are on my mind at the moment, having spent a fabulous evening in London recently attending an event to publicise P&O’s newest ship, Britannia, due to be launched in 2015. Five ‘Food Heroes’ have been brought together to add their culinary expertise and passion to the on-board catering arrangements. Do you want to know who they are? I met all five and managed to get photographed with each of them. I know, I’m brazen. Holding out for a Food Hero on P&O’s new ship, Britannia.

If you are still deliberating about the pros and cons of cruising, I would suggest a visit to Selena who writes at Oh, the places we will go! Selena has written a number of very useful posts under the heading, Cruising 101. Her latest post is about making a booking: decisions customers have to make including cabin type and dining arrangements: Cruising 101: Booking Your Cruise

Lucy from Family Affairs and other matters has been jetting off across the Atlantic to see what’s new in the world of Disney Cruises. If you think an Aquadunk flume ride might appeal to your family then take a peek: Disney Magic Re-imagined Cruise Ship – What’s new for Kids?

Carnival Cruise’s ‘Funnest Family’ has just returned from a wonderful Caribbean holiday, sailing from Miami. Penny, of A Residence, has plenty to share regarding their action-packed adventure. Let’s start here: Welcome to Carnival Breeze.

Also on board was Liz from The Mum Blog. Enjoying the same cruise but writing from a different perspective, Liz was delighted to visit islands she had never been to before. Just look at the beautiful beach she spent time on while Snorkelling in Grand Turk.

I can also recommend Boston-based traveller, Marian from Travel Shop Girl, if you’re looking for cruise news. Her latest trip has been aboard Celebrity Solstice, departing from Sydney, Australia. Celebrity Solstice Photo Tour.

Let’s disembark and return to Terra Firma. I’ve noticed a few bloggers have been taking to the highways for their vacations so if you fancy a US, Australian or New Zealand road trip, look no further.

Tucked away in Hellie’s Corner is a 2012 US road trip which is only now being written up for blog readers. US Road Trip 2012: Part 1 Phoenix to Tuba City, Arizona. I hope we don’t have to wait too long for Part 2.

How about this for a blog name: Barbie, Bieber and Beyond – Raising Girls. Living in Australia, the family of girls (plus Dad) took a road trip in an RV called Bertha. You can follow their exploits from the beginning here: Family Road Trip – Day One and Two

Family traveller, Nicola, from Jetlag and Mayhem, has just completed a nine-day road trip on North Island, New Zealand. Her blog posts are packed full of great information regarding where to stay and what to do: an excellent resource for families considering a similar trip. This final post has links to all previous ones: New Zealand Road Trip: Part 5 – Auckland.

Finally I would like to share a post I came across recently from Around the world with a highchair. This is a blog which provides personal holiday suggestions for families, from days out to festivals and even holiday reading. However it was this post, My Danger Chip, which really made me smile as I recognised a fellow sufferer. Shall we retire to the bar, Mrs ATWWAH, and leave the adrenalin junkies to their own devices?
Please share, using the linky below, any travel posts from recent weeks. If you have any new posts you would like me to feature next month, you can tweet me, @mumsgoneto, or contact me via my blog.

Thankfully she survived and continued with less scary family trips: ‘Mum’s Gone To…Canada, Cyprus, Barcelona, Berlin etc. Originally from Newcastle upon Tyne she now lives in South Lincolnshire and travels with her husband and occasionally with her son, who is now at university.
