Blogger of the Week and 5 other must reads

The first month of the year is nearly done! How time has flown by! Already this year there are bloggers who are moving and shaking the blogosphere. These bloggers are making other bloggers stand up and take notice, are drawing the community together and are making a difference. It’s a great start to an exciting year!

This week’s Blogger of the Week is a blogger who has risen to new level in the last few months. She’s been so impressive that YOU, the viewer, nominated her for a Brilliance in Blogging award. She was voted in as one of the Outstanding in Field bloggers which came as no big surprise to those who know her.

You know our Blogger of the Week in several forms. She’s the brutally honest and forthright Mocha Beanie Mummy. She’s a constant presence of hilarity and strong language on Twitter as @cosmicgirlie. She’s a stunning photographer who keeps us all enthralled with her gorgeous images as Jay Mountford Photography. She is…Jay Mountford!

In her own words, Jay has a bit of a Twitter addiction. “I also spend waaaay too much time on twitter, usually cursing, shouting cock, discussing bacon, bitching about CBeebies, stalking celebs or detailing my children’s bowel movements. I’ll twitpic almost anything (usually cocktails) and will always try to reply to you if I see your tweet (so please say hi AGAIN if I didn’t reply first time!).” If you’re looking for an entertaining addition to your Twitter timeline, be sure to follow Jay!

What’s making the blogging world stand up and take notice is Jay’s latest creation, Silent Sunday.

“Way back in June 2009, I started posting a photo most Sundays. There was no specific reason, but I often found I had just one photograph I had taken, which either summed up my week, really caught my attention, made me smile – WHATEVER. It was often something I could post which needed no words at all.

Hence “Silent Sunday“.

So I continued, trying to avoid using words. Sometimes I find that words can clutter a photograph. Sometimes I want to look at a photograph, and make up my own mind about it, what I think about it, rather than what others might think it should be about. I guess I was thinking, when you go to a museum or art gallery, more often than not the art is just there for you to look at, and not be distracted by a great deal of text.”

This past Sunday, Jay’s Silent Sunday saw 123 people link their posts to her site. Her post received 54 comments! Everyone who participated in Silent Sunday saw a massive spike in their traffic and was introduced to bloggers they had never encountered before. Part of the brilliance of Silent Sunday is that it is so easy to participate in and to find new and exciting blogs to follow. What Jay has done is inspire people to pick up their cameras, capture the moment and share it with the world. There are no agendas, no competitions, no prizes other than the joy of seeing some amazing and touching photos.

So for Silent Sunday, being Outstanding in her Field and a right entertaining Tweep on Twitter, please draw your attention to the lovely and talented Jay Mountford, BMB Blogger of the Week!

I am so so pleased that #BMB has recognised the awesome power of Silent Sunday and its creator. @cosmicgirlie is such a personality I sometimes think she needs a twitter all of her own!!
