About EmmaRaphael

Emma Raphael left the UK for Copenhagen in 2009, with her ever-patient husband and two small children. Having enjoyed a couple of years in Scandinavia, Emma and her family found they enjoyed Expat life so much that they now reside in Munich – where the pace of life is relaxed, her language skills are small, and the mountains and bier halls are very large. Being one half of a self-proclaimed foodie couple, Emma enjoys the new produce and restaurants in each new country she resides in, and has made it her mission to convince people that English food no longer deserves the bad rap it once had. She can be found in the kitchen when she’s feeling homesick, trying to recreate comfort food from home. She also has huge passions for travel, photography, art, wine, gardening (although according to her Bavarian neighbours, she’s not much good at that!) and her family (of course)!

November Foodie Round-up: The Vegetarian Edition

I can kind of say I was vegetarian in my “yoof”. Not that I did it properly you understand – I think I existed purely on a diet of  soya Bolognese, salad, and monster munch sandwiches for a couple of years. It was just a “phase” according to my paternal grandmother, who used to loudly […]

Someone once said “it is only the farmer who faithfully plants seeds in the Spring, who reaps a harvest in Autumn” – well judging by the amount of linky entries in last month’s Foodie Round Up, we have a lot of green fingered people in this community!! I love this season, and everything about it – […]

BritMums Foodie Round-up: Afternoon Tea!

Behold the humble scone, the pinnacle of any decent English afternoon tea (but what goes first, the cream or the jam?). Having lost its appeal slightly over recent years, afternoon tea is back in a big way, especially thanks to shows such as The Great British Bake Off. Leisurely afternoons  appreciating cakes, sandwiches and complicated […]

Foodie Round-up: Festival Food

I think as a nation, we are pretty good at Music Festivals.  Indeed we are home to some of the biggest and the oldest (still in existence) in the World (Reading, my old favourite!), and definitely some of the most famous. But something huge has changed – Festival food. No longer are Festival goers happy […]

July Foodie Round-up – All things salad…

June has been and gone in what seems like the blink of an eye. Typically known for being the “flaming” month that contains the longest day of the year, it is usually hot enough that to make us lose our appetites for anything but salad, well that’s often the case for me anyway. But June […]

June Foodie Round-up: Outdoor food

Somebody somewhere decided that next week (from the 17th to the 23rd June to be precise) will be National Picnic week in the UK. Of course, because it has now been proclaimed as such, it will mean that sods law will dictate that it will most probably rain. But being British and all, we are used […]

May Foodie Round Up: Holiday food and the BiBs

I read somewhere recently that the latest thing to do in Paris is “Le Drunch” – a strange name for a combined lunch/dinner…   It sounds much more appealing perhaps once you know what it is!  After all, what’s not to like about the idea of a long leisurely lunch spilling over into dinner and […]
