Did I get new beauty products for Christmas? Of course I did! I have myself an excellent manicure set with a brilliant selection of 20 different coloured nail varnishes and I was lucky enough to also get some new smellies to try; a Botanics gift set, a range I’ve been meaning to try for years; and a lovely Champney’s gift set. I will be smelling lovely despite eating far too many brussels sprouts on Christmas day! How about you? What treats did you get?
I’ve also managed to squeeze in a pamper day over the Christmas period. As I’m writing this I have perfect freshly painted Shellac nails in coral. Alright, so I know it’s not a winter colour and I should be wearing plum, or gold, but I like coral. I have had a back massage and my hair is freshly coloured with a new shorter cut. A new me for a fast approaching new year.
Getting pampered after the crazy business of Christmas is my way of relaxing. My top 5 tips for de-stressing after Christmas are here if you need any tips; though they are all fairly obvious. The difficult bit is actually doing them!
One of the benefits of editing the beauty round-up is that you get to discover new blogs. Missie Lizzie added her link to the last beauty round-up and it’s the first time I’ve checked out her site. She’s at “Me and My Shadow” and she tells us about her glamorous magazine make-over.
I am jealous for various reasons, the first of which is that she looks fabulous, the second is that I have harbored a secret desire to be a model since I was 13 years old and would absolutely LOVE to have my hair and make-up done for a magazine shoot, and the third and final reason being that, did I mention, she looks fabulous! Where can I sign up?
The other advantage to this gig is that I get to read some of my favorite blogs all in the name of research. One of my favorite bloggers, Liz Jarvis at “The Mum Blog”, reviews Clinique’s High Impact Extreme Volume Mascara this month. If you are wanting great lashes without the falsies, it might be worth a last-minute investment before tonight’s festivities.
Alison Perry at “Not Another Mummy Blog” has been talking to Jennifer Gledhill of Boo Boo skincare this month and the post is full of tips and Jennifer’s ‘must-haves’ for new mums. Check it out.
Eliza Gray at “50 is the new black” provides strong reasons to avoid Garnier Ultra-Lift Firming Day Cream. I’ve never tried it, so I’ll leave you to be the judge for now. Let me know whether you agree.
I also occasionally get tweets offering beauty tips such as this one from @homewithmum who suggests “olive oil & brown sugar for natural body scrub & witch hazel for face tone”. I seem to remember using a witch hazel stick for spots in my youth but haven’t used it for years. I will be looking out for it now.
And last, but most definitely not least, the BritMum’s very own #bootschristmas twitter party collected some great tips; 43 of which are collected together here, in case you missed it!
And now I’m off to drink more port and eat more chocolate. The diet start’s next week I promise……
Please add all your beauty tips in a comment below with a link so I can come and check them out.
About Louise Yummymummy
Louise started writing her blog Yummy Mummy? Really? after becoming a mum and discovering that it was harder than ever to keep looking yummy. Louise is a self-confessed late starter when it comes to beauty treatments and only started wearing make-up 5 years ago after the birth of her first daughter. She blogs both about her attempts to stay looking yummy; with posts on everything from electrolysis to home work-outs; and what she’s learnt as a mummy; from how to change a nappy, what kit you need to feed on the go, and how to avoid toddler tantrums!

My biggest beauty tip is to spend some time on eyebrows. If they’re light, darken them with pencil or powder; if they’re dark, make sure they aren’t unruly.
They really frame your entire face and a will shaped brow can make your whole face look better and make your eyes pop!
Great tip Jennifer! I only started having mine shaped about a year ago, and wow does it make a difference. Thanks for commenting. Happy new year.
What a fab round-up Louise and thanks so much for your kind words.
Still makes me chuckle looking at the before and after shots (boy did they do a number on my ‘before’!)
You should follow magazines on FB, that’s how I got to do it I just responded to one of their shout-outs. It was great fun.
Hope you had a lovely Xmas sounds like plenty of lovely ‘me’ time for you x
My beauty tip at this time of year is to wear a hydrating serum under your daily moisturiser. The weather can really dry out your skin so it gives added protection. I also find my skin seems to stay softer if I use a heavier moisturiser than I do in the summer.
I can’t help noticing how many ladies neglect their hands during the winter months. Many of my friends (and me too) find hands get dry and sore in winter, so be sure to slather on the hand cream a bit more often.
A great tip is to apply a thick layer before donning the rubber gloves on cleaning days – the warmth of hot water helps skin absorb the goodness more easily =)
