Dad Bloggers Round-up: Authors, reviews and stuff

dads roundupIt has been a busy month in our household, with the ongoing changes in our lifestyle continuing to have an impact on my writing output.  Nevertheless I seem to be getting on top of it now. I’m starting to catch up with all the posts that have been promised.  What this does mean is that currently there are a few more review posts on my blog than normal, something for which I can only apologise.

This is an interesting subject when writing about blogs though, the do you review products or not problem.  I think everybody has their own opinion on this, my stance is that if it is a product that interests me then I am happy to write about it.  If not then a polite explanation to the enquirer as to why not seems to keep to keep everyone happy.  What this does mean is that a lot of my reviews turn out to be positive, although there have been exceptions which have resulted in a wall of silence or, even more amusing, the odd rant against me for voicing a less than glowing opinion.

Talking about reviews brings me nicely onto Darren who writes about his family on a daily basis.  I mentioned him back in June, but it has since come to my attention that he conducts regular reviews on childrens products.  His style is to give marks in five areas out of ten, which gives a result for each product out of fifty.  This is actually very effective as you can see at a glance what Darren and his family thought of the product.  I also admire his honesty though, as to my knowledge nothing has ever reached full marks on his scale.  You can see an example of his review style here.

Moving on to other subjects I very recently, why has it taken so long, discovered an author/dad blog which is beautifully written and very funny as well.  The author Mark, he really is an author with books and stuff, charts his family life at the Best Dad I Can Be and rather than link to a partiular post, I shall just point you in the direct of the blog as a whole, something for everyone, fabulous stuff.

Another who I appear to have never mentioned, no excuses I’m just rubbish at this, is the Slightly Suburban Dad.  Here we have a busy parent who writes with great style about a number of subject.  In his most recent post he deals, very well I feel, with some of the opinions that have been voiced about the BBC in recent weeks, titled In Defense of the BBC, well worth a read.

Finally this month I thought another trip across the Atlantic might be in order, this time to visit Pete, a stay at home dad with an all action blog.  There is too much going on at Indys Child for me to possibly do it justice, but I did particularly enjoy a recent post about a road trip with the kids, just wish they had had those pens when my lot were younger.

That’s it, have fun out there and of course if I am missing even more dads out, then let me know.
