What an honour to be asked to take over the BritMums politics round-up from the fabulous Ruth from DorkyMum as she moves onto new challenges. Big shoes to fill, so I will start with one of her posts. Save the Children published a new report into the suffering of the children of Syria. Ruth was responsible for getting the information out to any interested bloggers to help make some noise about the terrible situation young people are finding themselves in. Her post can be read here, and at the bottom you will find links to posts by other bloggers on the subject – there are some great ones, have a read.
DorkyMum also highlighted the backlash Save The Children faced when launching a campaign highlighting the poverty of children in this country. Childhood poverty at home was also touched on by Live Otherwise, what a tragic and shocking story.
Looking for Blue Sky broached the issues being faced south of the Irish border where austerity measures mean the option of stopping/limiting access to child benefit is being considered. Her great post considers whether means testing is as fair as it sounds.
Back in the UK two mums are fighting for funding for essential medical reasons. Exeter Mum updates us on the progress of her battle to access funding to learn sign language so that they can communicate with their deaf child. And the ever brave Tamsyn has faced another set back in her battle to get her husband Alex well again after a serious brain injury a year ago. There has been huge support throughout the blogging community for her”Making Waves for Alex“ campaign.
Also flashing on the radar this month have been boobs. Both Royal and Page 3 breasts have been getting you thinking and scribbling. Mammasaurus took a bold and brave step in her well written post about breasts and privacy, and the comments on this excellent article are well worth a read too. A great debate. Glosswitch tackled Page 3 culture in her usual witty yet forthright fashion with her explanation of breast to their owners, and I loved Lulastics ‘Boobs are brilliant, but they are not news‘.
It has been a month of politicians campaigning too:- In America we are in the run up to the presidential elections- and Kate Takes 5 looks in amazement at the Republican Vice-Presidential candidates parenting choices re guns. And I pondered why politicians try to seal the deal with kisses from their wives at the end of speeches.
I couldn’t leave out Live Otherwises awesome rant triggered by a tweet containing statistics, and I had to include Walking with the Angels blog post about a visit to the seat of power itself!
That’s my round-up cherry popped- assuming I haven’t broken BritMums in the process I will see you soon for more…. link up your posts here or if you have something for next months post do let me know!
About Sonya Cisco
Sonya Cisco is a 39 year old mum of three from Dorset. She spent 15 years playing in bands at various festivals and insalubrious locations throughout Britain and Europe. These days she is more of a home bod hence the title of her blog 'The Ramblings of a Formerly Rock'n'Roll Mum' , but she can still be persuaded to strap that bass guitar back on for special occasions. Has an opinion on everything, but always open to discussion. Likes biscuits a little bit too much.

Fab roundup Sonya! Thanks so much for including me, I’m really looking forward to reading the ones that I hadn’t come across x
Thank you Ruth, and thanks for your helpful tips to get me on my way! Hopefully next month I will have figured out WordPress a little better too!
Thanks so much for including my post, am working my way through as many of the others as I can manage
