Say thank you to an amazing mum

Tesco Mum of the Year Awards

The Tesco Mum of the Year Awards celebrate unsung heroes from across the UK. Nominations are open until 11:55pm on Friday 21 September so nominate the person you think deserves to be Mum of the Year now! Susanna Scott, founder of BritMums will be on the voting panel!

Mums are amazing aren’t they? Whatever hardships or challenges they experience, they put their kids first and keep a smile on their face. And some go above and beyond the call of duty and find the time to help others too – and that makes the world a better place for all of us, doesn’t it?

Recognising ordinary mums who act in amazing ways is what the Tesco Mum Of The Year Awards is all about. Nominations for the 2013 awards are open now and we’re asking the BritMums community to help us find unsung heroines who have made a difference to people’s lives. We’re looking for mums who’ve raised money for a good cause, helped in their local community, campaigned to raise awareness for a charity, built up a business and given something back, or overcome a personal challenge or tragedy while managing to be a devoted mother.

One of this year’s winners, single mum of three boys, Julie Jones, became legal guardian to another six children after they were tragically orphaned. Julie’s best friend Caroline was suffering from a brain tumour when her husband Dave collapsed with an aneurysm and died. As Caroline’s condition deteriorated, she asked Julie if she would care for her children when she died. “I don’t know how I managed at that moment,” remembers Julie. “But I was able to hold back the tears and say, ‘Of course I will. Everyone needs a plan B.’”

This story always brings tears to my eyes and I thank goodness for mums like Julie Jones, who was nominated by her own mum. And that’s why the Tesco Mum of the Year Awards are so important as they recognise incredible and modest women who don’t realise how special they are.

Winners will attend the glitzy awards ceremony at London’s iconic hotel, The Savoy, on 3rd March 2013, be treated to a gorgeous new outfit and a stay in London, and receive a goodie bag full of treats amongst other surprises yet to be announced. Most importantly they will be truly recognised for all the amazing things they do.

The nomination period for next year’s awards is open this week until 11.55pm on Friday 21st September 2012, so if you know an amazing mum, please fill in the form here and tell us why you think she should win. Please also help us spread the word this week by posting and tweeting about the awards too.

Remember, just being nominated is a fantastic way to publically say ‘I know you’ve done so much, thank you’!
