Day 2 of Back to Blogging how’s it going? Did you add your blog URL to yesterday’s Linky? I’ve made sure the Linky remains open for an entire month so there’s plenty of time to get connected.
Twitter – getting to know you
Today we are dedicating the BritMums blog to our Twitter accounts. If you haven’t discovered it yet or are sitting on the sidelines wondering what it’s all about then maybe today is your chance to read a few excellent posts in the Brit Mums archives and see what’s in it for you.
Here’s a brilliant post for new Tweeters written by Dorky Mum a brilliant comparison which explains what Twitter is like…
Increase your readership
Apart from being an excellent way to pimp your blog posts and therefore increase your readership, it’s also a marvellous way to connect with other @BritMums members and create conversation on a trillion different subjects. I’m not exaggerating, the front page of your profile will list what is trending in the UK in that moment (ie what are people talking about in real time)
Twitter parties
Today at 1pm BritMums will be running a Twitter party #WWBack2Best with Weight Watchers and you can win an android phone or Weight Watchers recipe books just by adding your tips to lose weight during that hour, come and join us. Use the above hashtag to follow the party conversation and best of luck with the prizes.
Tweetdeck
I took the step and downloaded Tweetdeck the other day and Karin Jones, BritMums social media queen, explained how to get the most from it in this instructive Google + Hangout we had which you can watch too. A few helpful tips can really set you up in a good place and make life so easy. We had a lot of fun making this and we’ll be holding more in the future so watch this space…
There seems to be a bit of debate in the blogosphere on which Tweetdeck version is the best, @LizJarvisUK a long standing member of the BritMums community for example prefers the yellow version whereas Nickie author of the must bookmark Geekalicious will be preparing a tutorial on the blue version soon as she prefers to not miss out on essential updates Tweetdeck make to their programme. In the meantime you can find all of her tips on the Yellow Tweetdeck version
Here is a post from the BritMums archives 7 easy tips to grow your Twitter account and for newcomers take a look at this guest post from North Essex Mummy who wants to avoid you falling into the same trap as she did.
Make the most of your Twitter bio
One last tip, make sure to make the most of your bio, add your blog URL to it so people can click through and write something short and to the point explaining what you are about, read lots of other profiles to see how they describe themselves
Today the Linky is a basic one, click on your profile on Twitter, the URL should look something like this https://twitter.com/Maris_world and simply add it to the Linky below. In the description box decide how you are going to be known. Are you carrying on your blog title like mine above or do you have a different way you want to be recognised, again try to keep some continuity throughout all your social media it will make you more recognisable on all platforms
This is Back to Blogging week in a nutshell – make sure you don’t miss out and add your URL’s to all of our posts below
Monday - your blog URL
Tuesday - your Twitter URL
Wednesday - your Facebook page URL
Thursday - your Pinterest URL
Friday - your Google + profile
About Marianne Whooley
BLOGS AT: Mari's World; TWITTER: @maris_world. Mother of four and gran to two Marianne Whooley has spent half her life in the UK and the other half in Italy. Blogging since Jan 2010, she finds it hard to drag herself away from her laptop. She likes to dabble in the kitchen, mess around with a camera, play at gardening, and she’s an expert in packing suitcases. She’d quite like to be an author translated into 25 languages but what she’s really good at is being a mum, a woman and a good friend.
