Health Round-up: Serious news & lighthearted Olympics

health round upI never like to start on a serious note, but this absolutely deserves it. Since my last health round-up, I’m sure you will all be aware that Kerry (AKA Multiple Mummy) has been taken very seriously ill. I think it’s fair to say that the news sent shockwaves through the parent blogging community because of the unexpectedness and gravity of her illness but also because Kerry is a such lovely, friendly and positive woman. Multiple Daddy has been posting some updates on Kerry’s progress and I am sure you will join me in wishing them all well and keep on praying that Kerry continues to get better.

It can be a very emotional and traumatic time when a family member becomes so ill. It’s something that Kate from Kate on Thin Ice is going through at the moment too. Her father has been taken ill and she has written about her hospital visit to him. I always feel a bit voyeuristic when reading such personal posts but it was very heartfelt and touching.

Elsewhere, the mighty Mammasaurus has written candidly about her struggle with an eating disorder. She’s feeling delicate but hoping to raise awareness about the issue by telling her own story.

Now, you may have possibly read or heard about a small event that took place over the last couple of weeks. I am, of course, talking about the Olympics. What a spectacular sporting extravaganza! All of the Team GB atheletes did amazingly well, no matter if their efforts resulted in a medal or not. Now, you may think they are a bunch of super-human, out-of-this-world atheletes but it turns out they’re just like you and me (except much, much fitter!) with some really inspirational stories. I read an article on Parentdish about how Laura Trott, overcame a collapsed lung and asthma to become an Olympic silver medallist in Team GB’s track cycling team. Well done Laura!

And, it’s great to know that our athletes are inspiring another generation. You only have to take a look at a video that Jenny from Cheetahs in My Shoes has filmed showing a fantastic triathalon session between her two children – a fantastically fun way to exercise and stay healthy.

Now, no-one’s linked up any health-related posts for the last two months *weeps into pillow* so please, please link up any health-related posts that you’ve written. Otherwise, I will be forced to imagine that you lot are managing quite well at keeping those germs and bugs at bay and that can’t be right when we all have children, can it?!
