I am, in the words of an increasingly northern sounding Midlander, right excited to be bringing you the first Beauty round-up!
I am such a clueless geek when it comes to make-up, hair, skin care etc etc etc. I didn’t wear make-up AT ALL until I returned to work after my first maternity leave. I think I felt the need to quite literally ‘put on my work face’ to differentiate work from my role as a mum. This was only 5 years ago. Since then I’ve progressed from tinted moisturised to foundation; from mascara to eyeliner and from shaving to electrolysis. I had a lot of catching up to do and I’m still running behind!
I am pretty clueless as I never had a bunch of girlfriends to discuss and try out make-up techniques with, so I really do make it up as I go along. I started my blog, Yummy Mummy? Really? as a way to try and understand if the two words yummy and mummy really were mutually exclusive and to share the beauty tips I am continually learning. My tips are basic, quick and only included if they work with children under 6 years old clinging on to your ankles and sliding across the floor on their tummy whilst you desperately try and walk to the bathroom for 2 minutes peace. I also blog about travel and parenting, so pop over and say hi!
In preparation for this blog post I popped ‘beauty tips’ into the Britmums search engine and was disappointed by the lack of up to date results. It appears that the beauty bloggers are sitting at one side of the blogroom and the mummy bloggers are sat the other side. I don’t really understand why there is such a gulf between the two groups. So I’m here to try and reconnect fabulous mummies with fabulous beauty blogs. Here’s my first selection; enjoy!
New blog Mum-of-the-Mig instantly held my attention when I discovered it this month. The Nature Versus the High Street section highlights make-up, skin and hair care products that are 100% natural; yes that is possible, but not easy to find apparently. Check out the recommendations for hair and make-up this month. I look forward to what this blog has to offer as it evolves.
A finalist in the Brilliance in Blogging Awards, The Agoraphobic Fashionista blogs about fashion, beauty and mental illness, all with equal honesty. I absolutely wouldn’t have the patience for the skyline nail art she ably demonstrates, but the gorgeous dress here would be absolutely on my wish list if I could first half my breast size. I’m fairly certain it wouldn’t suit me at all at the moment. Another incentive for more regular gym sessions for me then!
A long running favourite blog of mine, Honey’s Mummy, has started posting brilliant budget beauty buys to highlight some unsung heros of the budget beauty world. This post; Budget Beauty: Collection 2000, highlights a lip cream which smells of chocolate. I’m slightly worried that it makes it infinitely more attractive to me when chocolate is involved. Not sure how long the lip cream would stay on my lips… microseconds probably… but I’ll certainly be looking out for this product.
Rubber nail polish and a hair colour bug? Wondering what I’m talking about? Then pop on over and say hi to Toxy. I love Toxylicious.com. It’s full of the latest trends (I still can’t get over those duck nails), and tips, and I’m considering asking her to design me some social media buttons for my blog…. I still can’t get mine to line up nicely (sob).
Liz Jarvis at The Mum Blog regularly reviews beauty products. Her recent review of Yves Rocher L’Eau des Vahines (a perfume if you weren’t sure) is here.
Finally; if you fancy a bit of Brooklyn Glamour, my latest beauty blog discovery from across the pond is the beautiful Shake Your Beauty. Originally launched in 2005, but with a blogging sabbatical for two years recently, the blog relaunched in March. It’s author (published author at that) Tia Williams’ American confidence oozes out of the screen. I feel like I should shake myself up a bit just reading one post of hers. What is it about American energy that is so catching?
So that’s my selection for the month. Now it’s your turn! Wondering why your beauty posts weren’t included? Share them below! I can’t wait to discover more new mummy beauty blogs.
About Louise Yummymummy
Louise started writing her blog Yummy Mummy? Really? after becoming a mum and discovering that it was harder than ever to keep looking yummy. Louise is a self-confessed late starter when it comes to beauty treatments and only started wearing make-up 5 years ago after the birth of her first daughter. She blogs both about her attempts to stay looking yummy; with posts on everything from electrolysis to home work-outs; and what she’s learnt as a mummy; from how to change a nappy, what kit you need to feed on the go, and how to avoid toddler tantrums!

Thank you for sharing these, I have a lot of new blogs to go and check out now and they all sound great. I know for a fact that I’m not quite with it when it comes to make-up so I’m sure these will be useful.
Thanks,
