Foodie Round-up: Frittata, lacquered pork and A Scot’s Larder

foodie round-upMay. A wonderful month signalling the end of Spring, and (usually!) giving us that first promise of Summer. For seasonal food it’s a great time, with lots of delicious produce at its finest. With that in mind, this month’s Foodie Round-Up will focus on some recipes you can make with some of May’s bounties… All freshly plucked from the boughs of the Food Blogosphere…

Tempting us with a Quick Apricot Tart is the very easy on the eye Pease Pudding, written by The Gourmet Gannet, a Liverpudlian in New Zealand.

Asparagus is a huge deal at the moment here in Bavaria, and Girl Interrupted features a great Shaved New Potato and Asparagus Pizza with Wild Garlic Pesto. I love how she forages for lots of her own wild ingredients!

Delicately flavoured Crab works well in lots of recipes, but the beautifully written Cook Sister has a fabulous recipe stuffed mushroom recipe. Just the title of her blog makes me hungry for the cakes it’s named after!

GooseberriesThese little green spiky orbs are typically used in sweet recipes, so this Gooseberry Mackerel Couscous from Lincolnshire’s very own Emma’s Kitchen Diary is really interesting if you are looking to make something totally different with them.

The wonderful Lavendar & Lovage has a beautiful recipe for Halibut in a Brown Shrimp Butter sauce, which sounds both delicious and very regal if you ask me…

Giving us something a little different from usual Lamb dishes, A Scots Larder, a blog from Glasgow passionate about seasonal and local produce. Graeme makes Wild Rose El Hanout meatballs, the thought of which had me dreaming of far flung places!

Talking of recipes from far away, The very well travelled Taste Food Blog has a wonderful recipe for Lacquered Pork in Lettuce Leaves, all kinds of which are also in season right now…

Inspirational vegan blog Maple Spice has a great recipe for a Warm Salad of Roasted New Potatoes, Sauteed Asparagus and Shallots with a Mustard Vinaigrette, perfect for when you want something salady but it’s not quite warm enough to sit outside…

Making use two of this season’s key ingredients, the very resourceful Frugal Feeding has a lovely summery recipe for an Asparagus and Garden Pea Fritatta..

Looking for a Pepper recipe? Chez Foti is a really lovely family food focussed blog. I am planning on inviting myself for dinner the next time they make their Mediterranean Pot Roast Chicken with Peppers!

Eating for England – this versatile English blogger living in the US has some wonderful recipes including two great Radish recipes – Spring Radish and Pea Sprout Salad, and a very dangerous looking Radish butter…

Raspberries – something that always reminds me of England. The fabulously named Not Quite Nigella has a recipe for a gorgeous looking Raspberry & Coconut Cake. I wish someone would make one for me!

Working London Mummy had me reaching for the egg whisk with this amazing looking Rhubarb Meringue Pie… and I have just noticed a very succulent looking Ricotta hotcakes and poached Rhubarb recipe on her blog as well!

There are lots of lovely green leafy vegetables about right now, look no further than The Vegetarian Experience for a pretty delicious looking Spinach, Rocket and Watercress Soup recipe…

It’s not long until Wimbledon, so you should definitely make Simple Baking’s Strawberry Tart to take with you. It would go really nicely with a big glass of Pimms (any excuse)!

Farmer’s Girl has a really light recipe for Salmon with a Tomato Vinaigrette (and a very tasty looking focaccia!), and then moving onto another seasonal fish – TunaJenny Eatwell’s Rhubarb and Ginger features a delicious looking Tuna and Vegetable Lasagne…

Which just about rounds it up for this month!

A big congratulations to Mari who has taken over the role as Editor at BritMums. She has handed over the Foodie Round-Up reins to me, and I am really looking forward to featuring lots of your lovely blogs and recipes!

I will be on the look out for Global Food for next month’s round up (because even if the sun’s not going to shine in the UK, we can cook some sunshine up instead!)  Please submit your recipes from around the world below – plus of course any others you would like to add (I am always on the look out for future round-ups)!

About Emma Raphael

Emma Raphael left the UK for Copenhagen in 2009, with her ever-patient husband and two small children. Having enjoyed a couple of years in Scandinavia, Emma and her family found they enjoyed Expat life so much that they now reside in Munich – where the pace of life is relaxed, her language skills are small, and the mountains and bier halls are very large. Being one half of a self-proclaimed foodie couple, Emma enjoys the new produce and restaurants in each new country she resides in, and has made it her mission to convince people that English food no longer deserves the bad rap it once had. She can be found in the kitchen when she’s feeling homesick, trying to recreate comfort food from home. She also has huge passions for travel, photography, art, wine, gardening (although according to her Bavarian neighbours, she’s not much good at that!) and her family (of course)!
