Pinterest, how I love thee

You must have heard of Pinterest by now? The great way to share the images that inspire you and pass on blogs or websites of interest to others. Alice Langley who writes at An Essex Wife tells how she’s hooked.

Before I began blogging as An Essex Wife my social media usage was confined to Facebook updates and the occasional peruse of twitter, little did I know how many great sites I had been missing out on.

Pinterest is one such site.  To explain it in a nutshell, it’s the online version of cutting out pictures of all the things you like the look of in magazines and then keeping them in a stash on the kitchen side.  I used to do this and it drove my husband mad, maybe in a roundabout way Pinterest has saved my marriage?

As soon I as I set up my Pinterest account  the addiction began. I was introduced to Pinterest by (Mostly) Yummy and she did warn me of the hours I would lose just daydreaming and planning my dream home on there. How I’ll ever afford this home if I spend all my time planning it instead of earning the money to buy it I’ll never know, but it puts a smile on my face so where is the harm in that?

Pinterest is perfect for giving me inspiration for whatever project I am working on.  I’m currently planning my daughters princess themed 3rd birthday party, so I have created a board for this and every time I see an Idea that would be good for the party I collect it.

What is even better is that if the picture I like is of something that has been homemade and blogged about you’ll find the link to the tutorial with the picture, so I’m learning how to make things and finding new fab blogs to read all at the same time.

Now I’ve mastered how to create boards and pin my ideas on to them, I am now learning how to add my own pictures for others to pin, allowing me to share my ideas and gain some new readers for my blog too.  I’m looking forward to the ‘How To’ guest post about Pinterest so I can learn more, it really is such a useful and fun website to use, its gone straight into my top 5!

Alice is an ex teacher now retrained as a housewife.  She has been blogging at www.anessexwife.com for 8 months now and has really embraced all that the blogging and social media world has to offer. She tweets as @anessexwife sharing the funny side of Essex life with her followers and can be found complaining about the smell of fake tan in the air each time the sun comes out.  Alongside blogging and tweeting she is also setting out on her journey as a freelance writer, and balances all this with keeping two small people alive and one husband fully fed.

Oooh! Pinterest is my happy place and I confess to spending far too long daydreaming over there but what a lovely place to waste an hour or two! Ha! I’m happy to have been such a bad influence, Alice!

I am totally clueless with Pinterest. I just haven’t got the navigation sorted yet. But, inspired by your post, I’ve armed myself with a glass of wine and I’m going to have a crack at it tonight – have told husband I am working so he is on bedtime duties. :)
