BritMums Craft Round-up: Cardboard furniture, creative dads and thrifty crafting

Welcome to the BritMums Craft Blog Round Up! As you may or may not know, I am Maggy from over at Red Ted Art and I am PASSIONATE about crafting. I love love love it. A lot of people ask me where I find my craft inspiration and my answer is usually from “all over the place”, but the internet is certainly a great place to start. There are so many wonderful craft websites and blogs out there and it is a pleasure to bring you 10 today.

There are a few sites that I am simply in awe of, there are a number of sites I regularly visit and that I would count as my crafty friends and there are number of sites that are all round kind of sites, but that do like a bit of crafting too and then there are some “newbies” out there. I would like to share a cross section with you.

My “Craft blog” of the month is:

four dodgy diceIf I were to share with you just one blog today, it would be  What I Made – by dad blogger Scott. Scott is every dad’s creative dream… if only I could do that! Not only does he have AMAZING crafts, but his blog posts and directions are wonderfully illustrated. This a cartoon artist, not a blogger. Luckiy, he often has downloads for you, that do make life easy. A simple must to take a peak at!

Next up, a fellow bloggers, whose crafts always make me smile:

DSC_0578se7en - se7en has 7 children and lives in New Zealand. She regularly crafts with her children and the results are always GORGEOUSLY colourful. I love how all the different children take part and spectrum of results you get. I have often be inspired by her and she definitely makes me want to use more COLOURS! You will find lots of other things – such a books, recipes and educational activities. But I always like to stop by for their crafts.

The Imagination Tree – I *think* Anna sees her self as an Early Childhood blog, it is packed full of activities, ideas and books for under 5s. A background in teaching really lends her blog authority and depth, though it never ever comes across as boring or lecturing. She is simply having fun with her girls, making lots of playdough, sensory boxes and lots and lots of crafts. Funnily enough she says she isn’t crafty, but, I am sorry Anna, YOU ARE!

Looking for more “adult” stuff, check out

Flossie Teacakes - A blog about all things crafty and things that interest Florence. She shares a number of tutorials, from quilts, to little purses, to Peppermint creams.  A classic craft seller, that writes patterns for magazines, but also shares some tutorials on patterns on her blog. I rather like her 3 bears sleeping bag pattern. Just too cute.

Then there is also:

mrhoodiePom Pom Emporium – Anjie is one my very first guest poster over at Red Ted Art. She has a wonderfully stylish and craft website. Usually very quirky and fun ideas (I think her Guiness Craft (Socks In a Glass) is simply hilarious. But you will find all sorts on her site, from sewing Morsbags to fluffly little Easter Chick patterns, to another Flannel Cupcake guest post she let me have. Love it.

A Thrifty Mrs – it wouldn’t surprise me if you have already heard of – she has appeared on Channel 4 (frugal Christmas crafts) and is very active on twitter. She is quirky, fun and has lots and lots of ideas. Needless to say, many are very thrifty indeed, which is right up my street! And I have the pleasure of writing a guest post for her too!

InstructablesInstructables - this is one of those “massive sites” that “everyone knows” – or at least those in the crafty world. Instructables has EVERYTHING and ANYTHING, but I usually find more quirky things on here… For example you will find rubber band propelled boats, furniture made from cardboard, all sorts of sewing projects to woodwork. I always think of this a slightly more “techie” site… worth a look and a good old browse.

Blogs about everything, but also crafts

Me and My Shadow - some of you will know Liz from the parenting blog circuit – a classic “mummy blog”, with a lots of extra craft thrown in. This the blog to check out if you are a Mum who likes all sorts, routine through thrift shops and repurposing old finds. Magpie Monday may just be your thing and then take a look what she makes out her finds!

New on the block

Zing Zing Tree. I first fell in love with Zing Zing Tree when she made these Owl masks. Aren’t they simply adorable. A relatively new blog, you will find all sorts of fun activities for kids.

One to watch

inspiration 365 – a great project by twitter crafter @summerlandc – she brings you daily inspiration – a mixture of crafty things (e.g. things she has made, buttons she has found, lovely things from pinterst.  I can see this blog becoming addictive. What will she have for us next?

Well.. that is it from me for this month! I do hope you like the sites above and that you stop by to pay them a visit… don’t forget that that there LOTS of kids crafts and tutorials over on Red Ted Art for you too. Would love to see you stop by!

If you have written about crafts in the past month, please leave your link below so we can check it out!
